READING TASK – FORGIVENESS
To forgive is the highest, most beautiful form of love. In return, you will receive untold peace and happiness. – Robert Muller
There’s not much more conducive to happiness than the ability to forgive quickly, spontaneously and freely. People who hold on to pain, who nurse their wounds, who call out the troops to seek vengeance for the wrongs done to them, may win battles here and there. But the war against unhappiness will largely be lost before it’s even started.
Refusal to forgive with exaggerated and lingering resentments lead to a self-imposed imprisonment. It’s the very bars that keep others imprisoned in our hearts that keeps happiness far away, at a distance, peering in at best. It’s time we free ourselves by letting old pain dissipate into the darkness, so new opportunities can take us to greater heights of joy.
Of all the things that can be stolen from you – your possessions, your youth, your health, your words, your rights – what no one can ever take from you is your freedom to choose what you will believe in, and who and what your heart will love going forward.
Life begins where your fear and resentment ends. Just because someone hurt you yesterday, doesn’t mean you should hate the world, or start living life today in constant fear of being hurt tomorrow. When you forgive yourself and others, and stop the inner imprisonment, you’re creating the love of your life.
Through forgiveness we release some old hurts and patterns that were in the past yet they are impacting some of the ways that we are making decisions in our lives today. Forgiveness is the idea that we are releasing ourselves from the events or the people that we feel have hurt us in our lives. And it doesn’t necessarily mean that we are in agreement with those things or that we would ever choose to have those people even in our lives again. And we don’t have to do forgiveness with the actual person, in person, if that’s not accessible either. Forgiveness can simply be done in your own heart and mind. And it cuts the strings that hold you to that painful event or circumstance or even individuals.
