Hut in the Woods OLD

Kemenes Simran-House

Set on the premises of a former Berzenczey Castle among the meadows and woodlands of Nyugat-Dunántúl, in Kemenesmagasi-Puszta, Simran-House offers a sanctuary of contemplative calm open to all. Founded in 2010, Simran- House is a non-affiliated retreat centre in Hungary. Our retreats are designed for both experienced meditators and beginners, of any faith or none, who seek to cultivate a path of loving&compassion and communion with God. All retreats (with the exception of the Family and Friends retreat) are held in silence and explore the essential themes of calm attentiveness, equanimity, insight, peace and freedom.

The Sanskrit word ‘simran’ means ‘constant remembrance’ of God. To put it in another way: to ‘meditate’ or to be in ‘constant communion’ with God. In Simran-Hourse we remember how to do things with joy and loving care. We encourage our retreatants to remember how to be and be engaged with the present moment full-heartedly. We would like to support all who come to stay with us and/or part take in our programs to find loving way to contribute to and reconsider the ‘value’ of their own lives. We believe in the inherent goodness and loving of human beings – Godlikeness – and we intend to open the space at Simran-House for all to experience it if they wish so.

General Information

Accomodation: During retreats accommodation is mainly in shared rooms. Requests for single rooms need to be made at the time of booking and single rooms will be allocated by the Household Manager according to need. We are unable to meet requests for single rooms that are made on the opening day of retreats.

Giving of Service: We request that retreatants offer one hour per day of their time whilst on retreat towards the running of the house. Simran-House relies on this offering of service in order to keep our costs down. The work may be washing-up, house cleaning, maintenance, gardening or whatever the house needs at that time. If you are unable to do a work period or only able to offer light work it is important that you inform Reception of your situation when booking.

Room Cleaning: Retreatants are asked to clean their own rooms on the day of departure.

Diet/Food: Simran-House offers a healthy balanced vegetarian diet that may include eggs and dairy produce. A vegan diet is available as an alternative for those who specify. For people with a specific medical condition steamed vegetables can also be provided. Any queries regarding diet need to be referred to a Kitchen Manager before arrival.

Access for People with Disabilities: We welcome people with disabilities. Simran-House is accessible for people in wheelchairs and those with restricted mobility. If you have any mobility needs please telephone Reception before arrival.

From Celldömölk you can take the local bus service or request a lift to the House. Cost: €10. From the local (Kemenesmagasi) bus station one of our stuff will take you to the House. If you are able to offer a ride to Simran-House, please let the managers know. Travel details will be sent upon receipt of your booking deposit. It is also possible to offer or request lift share by posting a message to the Lift Board.
